A new video has been released to tease Andrew Lloyd Webber’s newest musical, Cinderella, whichwill officially launch in London’s Gillian Lynne Theatre after being postponed for nearly a year due to the pandemic.
The video shows bright and extravagant costumes worn by the cast, as well as one of the songs written by Lloyd Webber for the show.
Carrie Hope Fletcher leads the new production as title character Cinderella, with Ivano Turco as Prince Sebastian and Victoria Hamilton-Barritt playing The Stepmother.
Rebecca Trehearn stars as The Queen, Georgina Castle and Laura Baldwin, as Cinderella’s stepsisters Marie and Adele, Gloria Onitiri as The Godmother and Caleb Roberts as Prince Charming.
The production is described as a ‘complete reinvention’ of the classic fairytale, written by and based on an original idea from Emerald Fennell, the Oscar winning writer of the film Promising Young Woman.
The musical reunites composer Lloyd Webber with director Laurence Connor and choreographer JoAnn M Hunter who previously worked on the Olivier Award winning international hit School of Rock and the sold-out production of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat at The London Palladium, which returned to the venue this summer.
Ahead of Cinderella’s arrival at the Gillian Lynne Theatre, LW Theatres (the company owned by Lloyd Webber which runs the venue) has carried out internal upgrade work to the building including the addition of more toilets and refurbishment to areas of the auditorium and Front of House, as well as adopting measures to welcome back audiences safely.
