New ships and voyages to Alaska among the highlights of Viking’s 2028-29 season

Viking has opened bookings for its 2028-2029 ocean voyages, which will feature more than 700 departure dates across 80 voyages, spanning 84 countries and six continents. This marks the largest ocean deployment in the company’s history. 

Two new ships, Viking Vega and Viking Leda, will join the small, award-winning ocean fleet, while two new itineraries have been introduced: Alaskan Fjords & the Inside Passage, and Mediterranean, Malta & North Africa. There will also be more departure dates for the recently introduced Japan Discovery itinerary.

Itinerary highlights

The 2028-29 season includes itineraries spanning the Mediterranean, Northern Europe, Alaska, Asia, Australia and New Zealand, the Caribbean, South America and the Panama Canal.

Groups can choose from journeys ranging from eight days to extended World Voyages, with itineraries that can be combined for longer, more immersive experiences. 

Highlights of the 2028-29 season include:

• Alaskan Fjords & the Inside Passage (15 days; Vancouver - Whittier): Travel through Alaska’s Inside Passage and majestic fjords. Kayak among coves, hike wilderness trails, spot eagles, bears and whales as they breach, and listen to stories from Tlingit hosts who’ll share their deep connections to the land.
• Mediterranean, Malta & North Africa (16 days; roundtrip Rome): Sail from Rome to historic Valletta to discover the enduring legacy of the Knights of St. John. Journey to North African shores to be immersed in vibrant cultures, before exploring Andalusia and its Moorish-inspired architecture, including the UNESCO-listed Alhambra Palace. Discover the charms of Provence and Corsica before returning to Rome.
• Japan Discovery (15 days; roundtrip Tokyo): Sail round-trip from Tokyo, circumnavigating Japan and across the Sea of Japan to the south east tip of the Korean Peninsula. Call at Niigata, Hakata (Fukuoka), Sapporo and Shimizu (overnight) - distinctive cultural enclaves steeped in spiritual and architectural heritage - and experience the refined world of geisha arts during an overnight stay in Tokyo, Japan’s dynamic capital.

New ships for a new season

The Viking Vega and the Viking Leda, will be the newest ships in Viking’s ocean fleet, joining in 2028 and 2029, respectively. Classified as small ships, as are all Viking ocean ships, the Viking Vega and the Viking Leda will have a gross tonnage of 54,300 tons, and 499 staterooms that host 998 guests.

They will feature all-veranda staterooms, elegant Scandinavian design, light-filled public spaces and various alfresco dining options.
