Timewalk at ExCeL London uses cutting-edge technology and cinematic storytelling to bring ancient civilisations to life at full scale, from Göbeklitepe and Babylon to Ancient Egypt, the Maya and Rapa Nui.
It is the first UK opening by experience specialists, DEM Museums and invites visitors to walk through ancient worlds, which are recreated at full scale.
Timewalk begins at Göbeklitepe, thought to be one of humanity’s earliest communal gathering places and among the world’s oldest known monumental sites, before taking visitors on a journey through the legendary worlds of Babylon, Ancient Egypt, the Maya and Rapa Nui.
You’ll be able to sail the Nile at sunset, walk through the ancient gates of Babylon and stand among the Moai of Rapa Nui and discover the Maya’s extraordinary understanding of mathematics and astronomy.
Timewalk: taking technology to the next level
Eda Bildiricioglu, CEO of DEM Museums, which is behind the Ephesus Experience Museum in Turkey, said: “The core ambition of DEM Museums is to redefine how people experience history. DEM Museums is forging a new path in technology-driven cultural storytelling and Timewalk promises a brand-new experience for audiences, by physically stepping foot into the past and seeing 12,000 years of human civilisation unfold and develop around them.”
Timewalk has opened at Immerse LDN, London’s largest next-generation entertainment and culture district, which has welcomed more than 1.7 million visitors to date.
“What Timewalk does is replace the mystery with understanding,” according to historian Laurence Blair.
“You descend into a cenote, a sacred underground pool. You move through the roar and colour of a ceremonial plaza, past traders, farmers, warriors, nobles. You climb temple steps inscribed with the glyphs of warrior-kings and queens. You feel it: not a ruin, but a living city at its height.”
Group bookings
Groups of 20 and above benefit from discounted ticket rates and there’s also the option to create bespoke experiences. Benefits include a dedicated group time slot, full access to all five immersive rooms, audio guides and a group coordinator on the day.
Currently the experience is booking until the end of September although it will be extended beyond then, with tickets released in due course.
