Flashdance the Musical will begin an 11 month-long UK tour this summer, which will star Strictly contestant Joanne Clifton and sing-songwriter Ben Adams.
The new Flashdance tour – its’s first since 2011 – will open at Glasgow King’s Theatre on 5th August. It will go on to visit venues including Aberystwyth Arts Centre, Mayflower Theatre in Southampton, Empire Theatre in Sunderland, New Theatre in Oxford, and Regent Theatre in Stoke.
The tour is confirmed to run until July 2018. Group travel organisers should contact their chose theatre for more information on group bookings.
Flashdance - The Musical tells the story of 18-year-old Alex, a welder by day and ‘flashdancer’ by night, who dreams of going to the prestigious Shipley Dance Academy and becoming a professional dancer. When a romance complicates her ambitions, she harnesses it to drive her dream.
The show will include popular numbers such as Maniac, Manhunt, Gloria, I Love Rock & Roll and the award-winning title track Flashdance - What a Feeling.
Joanne Clifton, who will star as Alex Owens, is best known for being a professional dancer on BBC’s Strictly Come Dancing, and in 2016 along with her celebrity partner, Ore Oduba, was crowned Strictly Come Dancing Champion. She is also a World & European Champion ballroom dancer.
Her theatre credits include Face The Music, Norma Jean the Musical, and Thoroughly Modern Millie.
Clifton said: “I think everyone in the world whether dancer or non-dancer, as soon as they hear What a Feeling, remember that iconic scene at the end of the film and I’m so incredibly lucky that I get to do that every night in a UK tour.”
Ben Adams will join Clifton on stage as Nick Hurley. Adams is best known for being the lead singer in the band a1 and is now a successful songwriter.
Adams commented: “It’s amazing to be part of such an iconic story, and as an 80’s child I was brought up on this music so I couldn’t be happier playing Nick in the theatre production of Flashdance.”
