Groups can see first editions of Pride and Prejudice, Persuasion and Northanger Abbey during a bespoke mansion tour of the Cheshire-based estate.
2025 marks 250 years since the birth of Jane Austen and events are taking place across the country to celebrate her life and work. The 18th century mansion at Tatton Park is joining the celebrations by inviting visitors to see three first editions by the acclaimed writer.
At Tatton Park, groups can book onto a bespoke mansion tour with the opportunity to learn more about the library’s collection, which houses a range of treasures, including the first editions.
Once owned by the Egerton family, two of the books written by Jane Austen are still in their board covers straight from the publishers and were never bound, making them even more rare.
Carolyn Latham, mansion and collections manager said: “Jane Austen’s works are a firm favourite, and we’re pleased to be able to showcase these original copies with visitors this year. In addition, the library will host an intriguing display of the books of Elizabeth Egerton by resident Doctoral Researcher Rachel Daley.”
Visiting Tatton Park
The mansion will reopen for high season on Saturday 29th March. Each Jane Austen novel will be on display until 2nd November and is included within admission. Pre-booked groups of 15 or more qualify for discounted entry.
Along with a tour of the library, other bespoke experiences include tours of the Japanese Garden and opportunities to learn about innovations in technology at the mill on the estate farm. There’s also the option of organising pre-arranged catering at the Stables restaurant.
