The installation will be returning to Waddesdon Manor for a limited time this autumn.

The powerful tribute will be unveiled at Waddesdon Manor on 21st October and will run until 29th November, following a five-month display at The British Normandy Memorial in France.

D-Day 1476 – For Your Tomorrow commemorates the 1,476 lives lost under British command during the D-Day landings on 6th June 1944. Visitors will be able to walk through the poppy wreaths and 1,476 life-size silhouettes erected throughout the manor grounds.

The installation aims to represent the scale of loss that occurred on that single day during World War Two and to “deepen understanding and appreciation of the freedoms we enjoy today.”

Changes to the installation for 2026

This year’s display will see new figures join the line-up to represent a wider range of military roles, from dog handlers and tank crew to merchant navy personnel.

There will also be 40 new silhouettes representing British Commando Frogmen and personnel serving with the Royal Army Medical Corps, to broaden the story of the Normandy Campaign.

Standing with Giants aims to create a sense of scale and understanding of the sacrifice made by those who served.

About Standing with Giants

The charity was founded by artist Dan Barton when he started the project in 2019. He created the displays to honour those who served and lost their lives in war, referring to the silhouettes as ‘giants’ to reflect the level of sacrifice made by those they represent.

Since 2019, Standing with Giants installations have been displayed across the UK, France and the Falkland Islands. The For Your Tomorrow installation debuted in 2024 at The British Normandy Memorial in Ver-sur-Mer, France, and has returned for the D-Day anniversary every year since.
