Players complete puzzles to find the location of their next checkpoint.

The challenge invites players to live out their own version of the hit BBC show, Race Across the World, by navigating the streets of these historic cities, working as a team, outwitting their competitors, and unlocking hidden secrets of the city in a race to the finish line.

Groups of 20 or more can book exclusive races, competing against each other during the experience in any of the available locations, including in recently launched games in Edinburgh, York and Bristol.

Tom Rymer, founder of CityDays, said: “Following huge success in London and Manchester last year, we are delighted to be bringing the Race Across The World Experience to three new cities: Edinburgh, Bristol and York! New puzzles, new characters, new decisions and new discoveries, all coming soon over three new thrilling races. Are you ready for your race?”

Race Across the World

The BBC show follows pairs of contestants racing across vast distances without flying or modern technology, armed only with the cash equivalent of a one-way plane ticket.

Since it first aired in 2019, the show has released five series and three celebrity spin-offs and has seen competitors race across Europe, Asia and North and South America.

About the experience

The race takes players on a four to five kilometre race across three legs through the cities, which typically take around two to three hours. The experience highlights landmarks and hidden treasures that people often miss in the cities.

Like the show, players are given a budget to manage as they race through the city. The budget can be spent on clues to help navigate the next leg of the journey, giving players the freedom to decide how they want to race.

Players are armed with various currency from around the world.

During the experience, players will visit renowned pubs, cultural hotspots, or famous landmarks, racing through The Shambles in York, The Corn Exchange in Bristol or up to the castle in Edinburgh. Each of these is a checkpoint where teams must solve clever, escape room-style puzzles which guide them to the next leg.

Players will be scored based on their time and how much budget they have left, with their final score ranked on a live leaderboard throughout the day and week. The team that completes the challenge in the fastest time with the most budget remaining will earn a shot at being crowned the daily or weekly champions.
