The hit show David Bowie: You’re Not Alone will extend its run at London’s Lightroom, with the production also opening in Manchester.

Photos and videos of Bowie are projected onto the venue’s huge walls.

Bringing together extensive footage of performances and appearances, the show is narrated by Bowie himself through archive interviews and creates an immersive experience exploring his life and work. 

Produced by Lightroom in King’s Cross, London, and designed by 59, a Journey studio, the show will extend from its original closing date of 10th October to run in the evenings through the rest of 2026, with a full week of shows planned from 5th - 10th January, 2027, to mark what would have been David Bowie’s 80th birthday on 8th January.

The show will also be opening in Manchester in December at Aviva Studios’ Warehouse space from 8th December to 10th January.

Highlights of the show

The 360-degree experience showcases some of Bowie’s performances that redefined popular culture, using a combination of rarely seen and never-before-exhibited material, selected from thousands of hours of film in the David Bowie Archive, photography, drawings, lyrics, personal notes and sketches.

Audiences can expect archive material from Space Oddity through Diamond Dogs and “Heroes” to , accompanied by Bowie as its sole voice, composed from hundreds of interviews from a five-decade-long career.

The experience is structured into chapters, offering an insight into his perspective on the subjects most important to him, including: theatricality, spirituality, songwriting and the power of creativity. 

Writer and director Mark Grimmer said: “Throughout his career, Bowie repeatedly resisted being figured as anything but human. Rather than undermining his mystique, we designed a show to celebrate Bowie as a champion of human creativity - focusing on the message he expressed time and again: that art, in all its forms, is our best hope for understanding what it means to be alive.”

The David Bowie show builds on Lightroom’s growing repertoire of acclaimed shows that have now been seen by over 1.6 million visitors globally including David Hockney: Bigger & Closer, The Moonwalkers: A Journey with Tom Hanks and Larger Than Life: Starring Wallace & Gromit, (which opens in October).

Founded in 2023, Lightroom is a joint venture between 59 Studio and London Theatre Company.
