Groups can discover England’s greatest forgotten legend in a new night-time spectacular at the iconic Warwick Castle this August.

The Dragon Slayer shows, running for eight performances from 3rd August, will tell the epic story of Guy of Warwick as he conquers beasts to win the heart of Princess Felice, the Earl of Warwick’s daughter.

Combining fire jousts, equestrian acrobatics, thrilling stunts and captivating performances, the extravaganza will include an interactive procession through the castle grounds to the central courtyard where Guy of Warwick faces his final and most challenging battle.

The final battle comes to life through a projection and light show onto the castle’s walls and concludes with an epic battle of man versus dragon featuring real flames and dazzling pyrotechnics.

Who was Guy of Warwick?

Melissa Paniccia, head of history at Warwick Castle, was part of the team in developing the new show. She said their initial research revealed that Guy of Warwick was a forgotten legend with very little public knowledge of him since the 19th century.

She added: “Guy of Warwick’s presence permeates the local area through statues, as well as locations such as Guy’s Cliffe site, and his achievements once placed him alongside similar heroic figures like King Arthur.

“Popular pubs such as the Dun Cow are named after the creatures Guy battled, and his likeness is present on a number of artefacts and in literary works over the centuries. We felt it important to bring his story back to life and believe his epic tale of love and loss will resonate with modern audiences.”
