Aaron Sorkin’s adaptation of To Kill a Mockingbird will open at London’s Wyndham’s Theatre on 25th June, where it will perform until 12th September.

The play is based on the novel, which has been banned in the United States on multiple occasions, about racial injustice and childhood innocence. The West End run will follow a sell-out UK tour which opened in September 2025 and is running until May.

The stage adaptation is directed by Bartlett Sher who has led productions such as My Fair Lady, The King and I and South Pacific. It previously ran at the Gielgud Theatre from March 2022 until May 2023.

About the story

Set in Alabama in 1934, To Kill a Mockingbird was inspired by novelist Harper Lee’s own childhood. It tells the story of successful lawyer Atticus Finch who encourages kindness and empathy in his children, but is pushed to the limits of these qualities himself when he resolves to uncover the truth and defend Tom Robinson, a black man falsely accused of rape, in a town that seems determined to hide it.

Richard Coyle returns as Atticus Finch, reprising the role he played in the 2022 West End production. The production also features characters including Atticus’ daughter Scout, her brother Jem, their housekeeper and caretaker Calpurnia, and the reclusive Arthur “Boo” Radley.

The original novel has sold more than 45 million copies worldwide and won the Pulitzer Prize for literature. It was adapted for a 1962 Academy Award-winning film and has been seen on stage in the UK and the United States.
