A new stage production of the classic psychological thriller will be touring theatres across the UK and Ireland in 2027.
Based on the novel by Patricia Highsmith and inspired by Alfred Hitchcock’s iconic 1951 film, Strangers on a Train will open at Windsor Theatre Royal on 15th January 2027 before heading to venues in York, Birmingham, Brighton and Guildford among others.
The tour is dedicated to playwright Craig Warner, who adapted the novel for the stage, following his death earlier this year.
The new production will be directed by Roxana Silbert, former artistic director of Paines Plough, Birmingham Rep and Hampstead Theatre and associate director of the Royal Shakespeare Company. Further tour venues and casting are still to be announced.

The story

Published in 1950, Patricia Highsmith’s debut novel Strangers on a Train is a psychological thriller about obsession, manipulation and the devastating consequences of a chance encounter.
The novel was adapted into a critically acclaimed film by Alfred Hitchcock in 1951, starring Farley Granger and Robert Walker as the two strangers.
Craig Warner later adapted Strangers on a Train for the stage which premiered at London’s Gielgud Theatre in 2013 and starred Laurence Fox, followed by a UK tour in 2018.
