Coach operators will benefit from more flexibility and reduced waiting times on the Channel crossing route, while passengers will have better access to facilities.

There will be dedicated parking and drop-off points to help with waiting times at the terminal in Folkestone.

Enhanced capacity and flexibility for coach operators

LeShuttle is reinforcing its commitment to coach operators with the reopening of its refurbished UK Coach Exit Check Hall inside the main terminal building at Folkestone.

The change increases capacity from two coaches to up to six coaches per hour, giving operators greater scheduling flexibility, reduced waiting times and the ability to book multiple coaches online at once.

Dedicated parking and drop-off points will also streamline movements through the terminal, helping operators cut queues, fuel costs and idling time.

Improved terminal experience for passengers

For passengers, the move restores direct access to the terminal’s full range of shops, restaurants, toilets and duty-free shopping - an experience which was lost when coaches were temporarily processed at a restricted border area following the pandemic.

Coach operators will have the ability to book multiple coaches at once as part of the improvements.

Tracy Bayliss, head of coach & trade sales at LeShuttle, said: “Coach passengers want journeys that are fast, comfortable and good value.

“By reopening the UK Coach Exit Check Hall, we’re giving operators the additional capacity and flexibility they need, while restoring the facilities and seamless experience their customers expect.

“With our 35-minute crossing and electric trains, coach travel with LeShuttle is not only the quickest way across the Channel, but also one of the most sustainable.”

About LeShuttle’s Channel Tunnel service

The cross-channel rail service celebrated its 30th anniversary last year after rebranding (it was formerly Eurotunnel).

With more than 61 million cars carried since the opening of the tunnel in 1994, LeShuttle is the only cross-Channel operator to reveal its carbon emissions, which it has done since 2006.

The 32-mile crossing between Folkestone and Calais takes 35 minutes and the terminal has direct motorway access from the M20 and A16.

The Channel Tunnel actually comprises three tunnels, two carry LeShuttle passenger vehicles and freight, as well as Eurostar services, while a smaller service tunnel lies in between.
