The organisers of the annual Group Leisure & Travel Show have contacted its exhibitors following the discovery of bogus emails that claim to provide access to an attendees list.
The emails, which have been sent out this week, go on to offer the reader the database at a cost.
YPL Exhibitions & Events has clarified that the emails in question are nothing to do with the exhibition, taking place on Thursday 12th October in Hall 18 at Birmingham’s NEC, and are completely incorrect.
Furthermore, YPL says the company concerned does not have the show’s attendees list, as the visitor database is never released under any circumstances and remains secure and confidential. It is also copyright and subject to the provisions of the Data Protection Act.
“The annual show, being held at the NEC, Birmingham, on 12th October, is highly professional,” says show director Graham Yandell, “and we never release visitor information to anyone. We have advised those concerned in this deception that we will consider legal proceedings if fraudulent email contact continues. Anyone who receives such correspondence by email should not be fooled and is advised to report it as spam.”
Yandell continued: “It’s a sad fact of life that there are always people out there who are prepared to extract money by stealth. Sadly this scam is not unique to our show and such companies target different shows in different markets with similar bogus offers.”
