The NYMR has released details of its 2024 season including special events and a new film trail.

Launching this summer, the Lights, Camera, Traction trail is one of the highlights for visitors to the North Yorkshire Moors Railway

Following the success of the NYMR’s 50th anniversary last year, group tickets are now available for the 2024 season which runs from 23rd March until 3rd November.

This year also marks the 90th anniversary of home-fleet locomotive SR No. 926 ‘Repton’, while LMS ‘Black 5’ No. 44806 returns after a major overhaul, transporting visitors to Whitby for the first time in preservation.

Laura Strangeway, acting CEO at the NYMR, said: “We are so grateful to each and every member of staff and our volunteers, who continue to spread the knowledge and magic of our heritage railway line to all of our visitors.

“As a charity we rely on the income and donations from our visitors to keep the NYMR steaming ahead and this year is no different. We can’t wait to once again welcome groups to our living museum.”

What has been filmed at the Railway?

Perhaps most notably, the railway has featured in the Downton Abbey film as well as the Harry Potter films over the years.

It has also played host to ITV’s Heartbeat, which was filmed in around the North York Moors, and in Whitby. The village of Goathland is known as Aidensfield in the TV series, and Goathland Station and several sections of the railway line feature in many episodes.

Pickering Station was also featured in the 2016 Dad’s Army film starring Bill Nighy and Catherine Zeta-Jones.

“We can’t wait to once again welcome groups to our living museum.”
