Ffestiniog Travel Reveals New Rail Holidays For 2017 %7C Group Travel News

Tour operator Ffestiniog Travel has released a selection of new itineraries for 2017, with highlights including Uzbekistan, Cambodia and Vietnam.

Groups can choose from 38 new trips to destinations across the globe, the majority of which are rail holidays.


The South Africa & Stars of Sandstone itinerary is a 15 night tour that will take in some of Africa’s most popular sights such as Cape Town, Robben Island, Shamwari Private Game Reserve, Knysna and Johannesburg.

Groups will have the chance to spend three days of the trip experiencing the famous Stars of Sandstone Steam Festival, where those with a passion for railways can see steam-driven vehicles and machines on display.

Meanwhile, a Magic of Vietnam, Cambodia & the Mekong Delta tour combines cultural experiences on a 15 night trip.

The itinerary includes scenic landscapes, colonial architecture and the chance to explore Ha Long Bay and the Perfume River in Vietnam.

This will be followed by a venture through Mekong Delta’s water villages to Cambodia, where Phnom Penh’s Royal Palace and Silver Pagoda can be discovered.

In Europe

Closer to home, a Danube from Sea to Source holiday allows groups to follow the course of the Danube by train and river on a 15 night escorted tour.

The trip begins in the Romanian city of Constanta, followed by a lunch cruise through the Danube Gorge, a hydrofoil trip in Budapest and an evening cruise in Vienna. Highlights include visits to Grinzing - renowned for its wine – and the Donaueschingen source fountain in Germany’s Black Forest.

Groups can also choose to holiday on a Uzbekistan and the Silk Road itinerary – this is part of Ffestiniog Travel’s Small & Traditional selection of tours – each limited to a maximum group size of 20 people. This 11-night tour travels between Tashkent, Samarkand and Bukhara by rail.
