Star Trek cast members

The Star Trek franchise is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year, and the seaside resort of Blackpool has revealed a number of new dedicated features that will mark the occasion.

A new exhibition and a Star Trek-themed light display have been confirmed, and other celebratory events yet to be confirmed are due take place in the town throughout 2016 and 2017.

Organisers have advised that it’s not just ‘Trekkies’ who will enjoy the sci-fi related features, and that there will be something for visitors of all ages.

The first of the features will be the opening of a new exhibition on the Golden Mile promenade on 30th June.

Star Trek: The Exhibition will feature over 100 exhibits displaying the 50 year history of the sci-fi television programme and media franchise, which has had six television series and 13 films.

Groups exploring the displays will be able to see props, costumes, artefacts and scripts, many of which have been donated by private collectors – so have rarely been seen by the public before.

There will also be the opportunity to step aboard a recreation of the original bridge of the star ship Enterprise, and to sit in Captain Kirk’s chair.

Star Trek: The Exhibition will be open daily to visitors.

Blackpool’s other major tribute to Star Trek will be a new light feature in the famed Blackpool Illuminations.

From 2nd September until 6th November, the iconic light displays will include a section dedicated to the famous captains in Star Trek.

The Star Trek light displays will also be located on Blackpool’s Golden Mile.
