The Ellen Smith tours story begins in 1900…
Ellen Gilson & Lund Smith lived on farms opposite each other, high on the moors above Oxenhope. They met and fell in love. Their families didn’t approve so Ellen & Lund eloped to Littleborough where they were married in the Parish Church.
In 1900, in addition to his farming interests, Lund Smith began a haulage business and passenger service between Littleborough and Rochdale with horse-drawn wagonettes. One of the earliest long distance passenger adventures was a holiday tour to London, Brighton & Eastbourne in 1920.
Ellen Smith vehicles have been a constant feature of the highways and byways of Britain, and often much further afield, ever since.
Today, Ellen Smith Tours do things a little differently to Ellen & Lund, but we have those family values at heart in everything we do. We are well-known for offering quality, value-for-money holidays and day excursions.
