Mel Brooks

Comedy musical, Young Frankenstein, will open at the Newcastle Theatre Royal for its UK premiere next August before joining the West End in autumn 2017.

Based on the Oscar nominated 1974 film of the same name, Young Frankenstein will open for a pre West End season in Newcastle from 26th August to 9th September.

Exact dates for the West End run have yet to be confirmed, but it has been scheduled for autumn next year.

The Mel Brooks comedy musical has been produced by Brooks, Michael Harrison, Fiery Angel and Hani Farsi.

The all-singing, all-dancing production will also see Brooks collaborate with Broadway director and choreographer Susan Stroman once again. Stroman and Brooks worked together for the Broadway production of The Producers, which was based on the 1967 film also written by Brooks.

Full creative team and casting is to be announced at a later date.

Synopsis

Young Frankenstein tells the story of Frederick Frankenstein, an esteemed New York brain surgeon and professor who inherits a castle and laboratory in Transylvania from his deranged genius grandfather, Victor Von Frankenstein.

At this point he faces a dilemma; does he continue to run from his family’s tortured past or does he stay in Transylvania to carry on his grandfather’s mad experiments reanimating the dead and, in the process, fall in love with his lab assistant Inga?
