The Wedding Singer

The musical The Wedding Singer is set to open at the Curve Theatre in Leicester next February before it embarks on a UK wide tour.

The musical, based on the 1998 film of the same name featuring Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore, will be staged at the Leicester theatre from the 9th to 18th February.

From there the tour is set to travel to venues including the New Theatre in Cardiff from 7th to 11th March, the Mayflower Theatre in Southampton from 4th to 8th April, the King’s Theatre in Glasgow from 25th to 29th April and the Grand Theatre in Swansea from 26th to 30th September.

It’s 1985. Hair is huge, greed is good and rock-star wannabe Robbie Hart is New Jersey's favourite wedding singer. However, when his own fiancée dumps him at the altar he makes every wedding as disastrous as his own.

Can the sweet natured Julia and her best friend Holly lure Robbie out of the dumps and back into the limelight? Or is he going to see Julia walk down the aisle with Wall Street bad boy Glen? It seems that only Grandma Rosie is able to see that Robbie and Julia are the couple that are meant to be.

Jon Robyns, of Legally Blonde, Les Misérables, Spamalot, Memphis and Avenue Q, will star as the lead character Robbie Hart.

He will be joined by Cassie Compton (American Psycho, Les Misérables) who will play Julia, as well as Ray Quinn (Grease, Dirty Dancing), Roxanne Pallett (Emmerdale), Ruth Madoc (Hi-De-Hi!, Benidorm) and Samuel Holmes (Mrs Henderson Presents).

Further casting is set to be announced.

The tour will be directed and choreographed by Nick Winston, with musical direction and orchestration by George Dyer.
