Joanne Clifton as Millie Dillmount in Thoroughly Modern Millie

Musical comedy, Thoroughly Modern Millie, is set to tour the UK in 2017, beginning at the New Wimbledon Theatre on Tuesday 17th January.

Winner of six Tony Awards including Best Musical, Thoroughly Modern Millie is based on the 1967 Academy Award-winning film of the same name.

Audiences will be taken back to the height of the Jazz Age in 1920s New York City when ‘moderns’ including a flapper named Millie Dillmount were bobbing their hair, raising their hemlines, entering the workforce and rewriting the rules of love.

World Ballroom Showdance Champion and Strictly Come Dancing star Joanne Clifton will take on the title role of Millie. Clifton’s previous credits include Face the Music, Burn the Floor and the Strictly Live Tour.

Tap numbers as well as a ‘Fred and Giner’ dance routine on a window ledge will feature in the musical, as will hit songs including Gimme Gimme and Not for the Life of Me.

Opening at New Wimbledon Theatre on 17th January, the musical will then travel to Milton Keynes Theatre before touring theatres across the UK until July 2017.

Other venues include King’s Theatre in Glasgow from 6th to 11th February, Liverpool Empire Theatre from 20th to 25th February, the Grand Opera House in York from 27th February to 4th March, Theatre Royal in Brighton from 3rd to 8th April, New Victoria Theatre in Woking from 8th to 13th May, Venue Cymru in Llandudno from 29th May to 3rd June and Bristol Hippodrome from 19th to 24th June.

Thoroughly Modern Millie is directed and choreographed by Gary Lloyd with musical direction from Tom Turner.
