Stepping Out

The comedy Stepping Out will embark on a UK tour from October before opening in the West End at London’s Vaudeville Theatre in March 2017.

The production, which charts the lives of seven women and one man attempting to tap dance their troubles away at a weekly dance class, will open in the West End on 1st March 2017 following performances at the Theatre Royal in Bath, Richmond Theatre, Cambridge Arts Theatre and Chichester Festival Theatre in late 2016.

Theatre and TV personality Amanda Holden will lead the cast in the production that is to be directed by Maria Friedman.

Holden, who can be recognised for her leading role in Thoroughly Modern Millie, as well as performances in Shrek The Musical and TV appearances on Britain’s Got Talent, Wild at Heart and Kiss Me Kate, will play the role of perfectionist Vera.

She will be joined by numerous soap stars including Angela Griffin, best known as Fiona Middleton in Coronation Street; Tracy-Ann Oberman, who can be recognised for her role as Chrissie Watts in EastEnders; Nicola Stephenson whose television credits include Brookside, Holby City and Emmerdale; and Tamzin Outhwaite, who first found fame in her role as Melanie Healy in EastEnders.

Further casting for the West End production is still to be confirmed.

Stepping Out originally premiered in the West End in 1984 when it starred Barbara Ferris and Marcia Warren. It has also enjoyed an extended run on Broadway and was made into a musical which became a film in 1991, starring Julie Walters, Liza Minnelli and Shelley Winters.
