The Library%2C Spirit of Discovery

Saga Cruises has released a number of artist’s impressions of its forthcoming ship, Spirit of Discovery, showing the luxurious library, spa and theatre.

Spirit of Discovery will be Saga Cruises’ first bespoke-built ship, launching in summer 2019 from the UK. The small, luxury, boutique vessel will carry fewer than 1,000 passengers and will feature ‘design cues from London’s finest hotels and restaurants, redefining standards in British cruising’.

The library

Designed to evoke the ‘cosiest of artisanal coffee shops’, the library on board Spirit of Discovery promises a selection of books plus coffee and cake at sea. Passengers can expect treats like genoise sponge accompanied by a fresh ristretto to accompany their page-turning.

Spa facilities

For those who prefer being pampered to perusing literature, Spirit of Discovery’s spa will offer an opportunity to de-stress or re-energise using various therapies and treatments. Guests will be able to detox in the steam room or relax with a hot stone massage in one of five private areas. Further highlights include an infrared sauna.

The Playhouse Theatre

Spirit of Discovery will also hold a theatre, complete with what’s described as a sumptuous auditorium. Tiered seating for a 430-strong audience will offer views of shows, live music and cinema screenings that make up the evening entertainment.

More about Spirit of Discovery

“Each and every aspect of the ship has been developed to impress guests both present and future,” said new build director, David Pickett.

“On land, our travellers’ tastes have been honed by their experiences of tastefully designed luxury hotels and fine-dining restaurants. Now it’s what they are increasingly coming to expect from us at sea. We’ve taken inspiration from some of the best of British interiors and we are rising to the challenge to deliver a luxury, cruise ship that will be built around our customers' tastes."
