Dates for Andrew Lloyd Webber’s West End production of School of Rock – The Musical have been revealed; opening night will take place on 14th November.

The musical will be staged at the New London Theatre from November until 12th February 2017. Tickets will go on sale on 25th May.

The show tells the story of wannabe rock star Dewey Finn, who poses as a substitute teacher at a prestigious prep school to make some money.

However, when he discovers his students’ musical talents, he encourages them to create a rock band and enlists them into the Battle of the Bands competition. 

School of Rock is based on the 2003 film of the same name and the show will feature music from the movie, as well as new music written by Andrew Lloyd Webber and lyricist Glenn Slater.

Musical numbers include Children of Rock, Queen of the Night and Stick It to the Man.

The 2003 film production was notable for staring real-life rock star Jack Black.

History of the show

The production, which received its world premiere at the Winter Garden Theatre in 2016, welcomed guests such as Mick Fleetwood, Stevie Nicks, Helen Mirren and Sting on its opening night.In April, Stevie Nicks joined the cast on stage with an impromptu performance of Rhiannon.

When the Broadway production was launched, Andrew Lloyd Webber called for schools and youth groups to create their own productions of the score, and there are currently plans in the UK to do the same.

There is also a nationwide search underway to find young performers to join the cast on stage each night.

School of Rock – The Musical is produced in the West End by Andrew Lloyd Webber, with Madeline Lloyd Webber acting as executive producer.
