The Dalesman

A family-run hotel has launched ‘dinner cruises’ on the Leeds to Liverpool canal following a successful trial.

The 101-bedroom Rendezvous Hotel in Skipton, Yorkshire is situated on the towpath, making it the ideal launchpad for tranquil trips through the scenic countryside.

Malcolm Weaving, who runs the business, said: “For some time I’ve been keen to see how we could use our canalside location to offer more memorable experiences for our guests.

“We have now launched a relaxing three-hour evening cruise in a purpose-built restaurant boat with a superb three-course dinner prepared by our own chefs in the hotel kitchen.

“We’re already taking bookings from groups who, for one evening during their stay with us, swap a dinner in the Baby Swan restaurant for a dinner cruise.

“The report from the three trial cruises (120 guests) was without exception that it enhanced their stay at Rendezvous”

Mr Weaving’s hotel was purpose-built in 1992 for functions and events and features a huge 400sq/m ballroom and a leisure club with pool.

He added: “As a privately-owned hotel, nothing is impossible. We can offer a real mix of room sizes, and at the gateway to the Yorkshire Dales we can offer a wide range of outdoor activities such as walking the Yorkshire Three Peaks.

“We know we have a very special hotel, but it doesn’t matter how much we say it, you won’t be confident in bringing a group here unless you’ve seen it for yourself.

“So if you could find the time to visit Rendezvous and see for yourself and a colleague or partner what we can offer, we’ll give you dinner, bed and breakfast and the opportunity to see a little of what makes us special.”

Groups can extend their visit, including with a trip to Skipton Castle, one of the most complete, fully roofed medieval castles in England. Guides are available for pre-booked parties of 15 or more at no extra cost.
