York Dungeon

The York Dungeon has reopened following a £1 million revamp project, and there are plenty of fresh features including a new Vikings-themed live show.

The York Dungeon, which is located on Clifford Street in the heart of York, combines thrilling live shows with horrible history.

The revamp comes following flooding in December 2015, and an investment in excess of £1,000,000 has gone into renovating the whole of the York Dungeon – so groups who have been before will get to see a number of new shows and sets.

Vengeance of the Vikings

Groups visiting can enjoy a number of new features inside the attraction, including Vengeance of the Vikings – a live show during which audiences will find themselves at the heart of a Viking invasion in 866.

Observers will get to meet the infamous Snore Short Sword – a fearless Viking warrior – and his son, before learning about some of the unpleasant methods of Viking torture that include viper pits and whipping.

360 degree sets

Groups visiting the revamped York Dungeon can enjoy an adventure through 360-degree sets and state-of-the-art special effects, as well as ten live shows overall.

A tour of the dungeon includes funny and scary encounters with some of York’s most infamous rogues from history, such as Guy Fawkes and Dick Turpin.

The experience will also include an appointment with a plague doctor and a visit to a recreation of York's most haunted pub, The Golden Fleece.

Further highlights include having to navigate a labyrinth of mirrors; facing a judge in a York courtroom; and meeting the Witch Pricker in Market Square.
