Beer and Cider by the Sea

Eastbourne’s annual beer festival, Beer and Cider by the Sea, will return to the Western Lawns this spring, running from 27th to 29th May.

Groups attending the festival will be able to try more than 60 real ales, a variety of ciders and perries, and a selection of cocktails and wines.

Half of the real cask ales on offer will be provided by two local breweries, Long Man and Beachy Head, as well as Harvey’s Brewery which is based in nearby Lewes.

Visitors can sample ales such as Sussex Gold, Summer Lightning, Long Blonde and American Pale Ale.

Ciders and perries to be found at the festival, sourced from the National Cider and Perry Collection at nearby Middle Farm, include Appledram, Biddendun Bushels and Double Vision.

Don’t miss new tipples such as Dreyman’s Golden Squirrel and Sherston’s Truly Scrumptious.

Entertainment will take place across the weekend in the form of live music; visitors can expect sixties hits, rock and pop classics, and swing and soul.

Lots to do in Sussex

Visitors to the festival will find plenty extra to do around the area.

Enjoy Fizz on Foot, a guided tour of the many vineyards in nearby Alfriston and the surrounding Sussex countryside, stopping off along the way for wine-tasting and a winemaker’s lunch.

Alternatively, visit Rathfinny Estate, one of England’s largest vineyards, where a wine tasting room is available for private hire.

Walking groups can enjoy a ramble across the South Downs, pit stopping at the historic 16th century smugglers inn, The Tiger Inn, which has been converted into a cosy country pub.

Locally brewed ales and pub grub are available in this pub, which Sherlock Holmes fans might recognise from the popular fictional detective series.
