Blackpool Pleasure Beach

Blackpool Pleasure Beach has just announced it is set to construct a brand new £16.25million rollercoaster for 2018.

The ride, referred to as ‘Construction 2018’ will feature 15 interactions with the park’s other rides and tunnels, including Big One, Steeplechase, Big Dipper, Pleasure Beach Express and the Grand Prix, meaning it should hold the world record for most interactions.

Mack Rides, the German manufacturing company in charge of the ride’s development, will be using its top engineering processes including laser beam technology to give the ride more accuracy.

The rollercoaster will be the UK’s first ever double-launch ride which means that, through advanced technology, it will have two powerful thrusts of acceleration during the ride.

This double-launch will see passengers boosted forward at high speeds of up to 80 kilometres per hour, a speed said to give a similar G-force as a Formula 1 car.

The rollercoaster’s construction will reach heights of 88.5 feet and drops of 82 feet.

Over 44,800 hours have been invested in the development of ‘Construction 2018’ so far, with that number expected to triple before its completion.

Nick Thompson, deputy managing director of Blackpool Pleasure Beach, said: “We have been working on this concept for five years now and are delighted to be able to share news of our plans.

“Construction 2018 will be fast, adrenalin fuelled and exhilarating but also smooth and comfortable – an entirely new ride experience.

“We expect to see thrill seekers flock to the park to experience this UK ride first.” Nick added.

Blackpool Pleasure Beach offers discounted wristbands for groups, as well as a dining plan and group rates for shows. Coach parking is also available.

The ride is scheduled to open in spring 2018.
