A new West End run for Rodgers & Hammerstein’s The King & I will run at the London Palladium from 21st June until 8th September.
The cast will see Ruthie Ann Miles reprise her Broadway role of Lady Thiang. She will join fellow Tony Award winner Kelli O’Hara who plays the role of Anna, and Tony and Oscar nominee Ken Watanabe who plays The King. Both O’Hara and Watanabe originated their roles in the show on Broadway.
All three stars will be making their West End debuts with this production, and will be joined by a company of over 50 performers.
Tony Award-winning Bartlett Sher will direct the production, working alongside set designer Michael Yeargan, lighting designer Donald Holder, and sound designer Scott Lehrer. Choreography is by Christopher Gattelli.
Set in 1860s Bangkok, The King & I tells the story of the unconventional relationship that develops between the King of Siam and Anna Leonowens, a British schoolteacher, whom the imperious King brings to Siam to tutor his many wives and children.
With music by Richard Rodgers, and book and lyrics by Oscar Hammerstein II, the musical boasts a score featuring songs such as Getting To Know You, Hello Young Lovers, Shall We Dance, I Have Dreamed, and Something Wonderful.
