Honister Slate Mine's Via Ferrata Extreme

Tour specialist, Mountain Goat, has launched a new ‘Goat on the Rocks’ tour experience especially for groups, which visits two major attractions in the Lake District.

Groups taking the new tour will visit Honister Slate Mine’s Via Ferrata Extreme and the Lakes Distillery.

The tour is designed for parties of between six and 24 people, and the first part of the day long tour is suited for thrill-seekers.

At Honister Slate Mine’s Via Ferrata Extreme (a climbing experience) groups will be secured to a mountain by a cable and experience a combination of different climbs to reach the top.

The Via Ferrata Extreme experience includes vertical climbs, cliff-edge ladders, rock-face rungs and rope-bridge crossings such as the Burma Bridge, which is suspended more than 2,000 feet above the valley floor.

No previous climbing experience is needed, however a reasonable level of fitness is advised. Participants are guided by a professional and can expect special safety precautions at all times.

Once groups reach the summit of Fleetwith Pike they can take a breath and look out across the Lake District to a view of Buttermere, Crummock, Loweswater and the Fells.

A more relaxing afternoon is then planned in the package with a visit to the Lakes Distillery. Groups will be given a tour to learn about the art of distilling and then will have the chance to taste The Lakes Gin, The Lakes Vodka and The ONE Whisky.

The cost of the tour also includes a bus and driver for the day and groups will be picked up from their hotel on a Mountain Goat mini coach at the start of the day.

Time for lunch at a traditional Lakeland inn is provided as part of the tour, but is not included in the cost of the package.
