Visitors can discover secrets of servant life on What the Butler Saw tours.

A selection of new tours are kicking off in May at the 17th century castle, taking visitors behind the scenes to learn secrets of the castle’s past and former residents.

Liz Flodman, visitor experience sales manager at Belvoir Castle, said: “We’ve curated a selection of new tours which encapsulate Belvoir’s charm, beauty and secrets. Step behind-the-scenes and walk in the footsteps of a former butler or venture out onto the parkland via our electric bus.

“Whatever you’re interested in, there are exciting ways to explore our beautiful Regency Castle and see another side of our Estate this year.”

New tours to explore

Visitors can experience an in-depth insight into life in a stately home and see “the less glamorous parts” of Belvoir Castle on the What the Butler Saw experience. Guides will spill the secrets of servant life and share stories, anecdotes and characters who worked to support the Dukes and Duchesses of the past.

Art enthusiasts can wander the castle’s extensive art galleries on a special tour of the Duke of Rutland’s collection, whilst The Film Lover’s Tour provides guests with first-hand accounts about how Belvoir Castle’s interior and exterior have featured in multiple period dramas including Netflix’s The Crown and BBC’s The Young Victoria.

In the castle’s grounds, visitors can explore the Estate on a Capability Brown Parkland Tour from the comfort of an electric vehicle. Guided by Belvoir’s expert gardeners, visitors will learn all about the estate and how the current Duke and Duchess of Rutland found plans originally drawn up by Sir Lancelot ‘Capability’ Brown which were thought to be lost in a fire.

‘Capability’ Brown Parkland tours take visitors round the grounds of the castle on an electric vehicle.

The Exclusive Belvoir Tour will provide access to areas of the castle which are usually out of bounds and historical documents which are not on everyday display in an exclusive group whilst hearing stories and antidotes about royalty and ‘celebrities’ of the day.

What else is new for 2025?

Seasonal Garden Tours and quaint Orchard Tours are also being introduced which allow ticket holders to embrace the quintessential English country garden, breathe in some fresh air and learn about Belvoir’s passion for produce, including heritage apple cider, wines from its own vineyard, lamb and Herefordshire beef.

The What The Butler Saw tour takes place on selected dates in May, June and August; the Belvoir Art Collection Tour and Exclusive Belvoir Tour kick off on 12th May and run until October; while the Film Lovers’ Tour runs on selected dates through June, July and September.
