Bournemouth Air Festival

The dates have been announced for the 2017 Bournemouth Air Festival, following this year’s air event that took place last weekend.

Bournemouth Air Festival will celebrate its tenth anniversary in 2017, and the event will run from 31st August until 3rd September. Details are yet to be announced.

What to expect

The Bournemouth Air Festival is an annual air show held along the coast at Bournemouth, in Dorset.

The festival boasts a jam-packed programme of events every year, and visitors this year were able to enjoy more than 15 display teams and 40 aircraft supported by over 55 ground crew.

Aerobatic aerial displays provided by the likes of the Red Arrows and the Black Cats have been regular features since the first ever Bournemouth Air Festival, as have ground shows like beach assault displays from the Royal Marine Commando unit.

This year, festival-goers enjoyed highlights including the Swiss Super Puma Display Team, Red Arrows on all four days, demonstrations from the armed forces on the ground and at sea, Otto the Helicopter, and Bournemouth’s first ever Typhoon dusk display.

Further highlights from the 2016 show included a finale display from a trio of RAF aircraft – the Red Arrows, Battle of Britain Memorial Flight and Typhoon.

Aerobatics came courtesy of The Blades, Gerald Cooper in his Xtreme Air XA41, Strikemaster Mk82A and the daring Breitling Wingwalkers.

A relatively new addition to the festival programme was this year’s Night Air dusk displays that starred the Fireflies Aerobatic Display Team, Otto the Helicopter, Aerosparx, the Red Devils Parachute Regiment Freefall Team and, for the first time, the Typhoon.

There were also fireworks on Friday and Saturday evening.
