MS Victor Hugo

French river cruise operator CroisiEurope has announced details of a new beer-themed cruise, which will operate in Belgium in 2017.

The five-day Beer: Belgium’s Liquid Gold cruise will run between Brussels and Ostend and introduce groups to the famous beers of Belgium.

Guests can enjoy beer workshops and lectures, and take visits to several breweries and a beer museum.

What’s on the itinerary?

Taking place on the MS Victor Hugo, the cruise will start in Brussels and visit Antwerp, Ghent, Lovendegem and Bruges before finishing in Ostend.

Itinerary highlights will include a tour of Brussels and the Maison des Brasseurs, the headquarters of the federation of Belgium Brewers. There is a museum here wholly dedicated to beer where groups can enjoy a beer tasting.

Guests will also take a visit to the Het Anker Brewery in Mechelen – renowned for its Gouden Carolus variety of beers – and to the family-owned Duvel Moortgat brewery in Breendonk, said to be one of the most modern breweries in Belgium.

Further cruise highlights include visits to the Dilewyns Brewery in Dendermonde and the Malheur Brewery in Buggenhout where blonde Malheur beers are brewed.

A tour of the Huyghe Brewery in Melle where the famous Delirium Tremens is made is another highlight, as is a tasting of the red-brown beer, Bourgogne des Flandres, which is brewed using ancient techniques and is aged for several months in wooden barrels.

Onboard the ship itself, guests will learn all about the beers of Belgium from a Belgian lecturer specialising in the brewing industry.
