Super Sunday%2C from Race Horse Company.

From Monday 4th to Sunday 24th April, CircusFest 2016 will bring contemporary circus to the Roundhouse and other venues across London.

The festival of international contemporary circus will showcase some of the hottest names in circus in new productions and street performances.

What’s on?

A UK premiere of Super Sunday from Finnish ensemble, Race Horse Company, will feature the wheel of death, a human catapult, trampolining and acrobatic apparatus, such as the teeterboard, in a high energy show full of stunts, chaos and comedy, from 4th to 16th April, excluding Sunday 10th April.

British circus company Barely Methodical Troupe will combine acrobatic skills, contemporary dance, parkour and tricking in their performance Kin at the Roundhouse for five days from 20th April.

Additionally, the exhibition, Transfiguration, by London-based photographer, Ben Hopper, will take place in the Roundhouse foyer and will showcase the physicality and spirit of circus performers.

Other performances include La Poème from French artist, Jeanne Mordoj, and Me, Mother, a show including film, recorded voices, photography and live performance revealing the joys and trials of motherhood.

Take part

There are also plenty of opportunities for groups to try their hand at a range of circus skills, from hula hooping to ground-based acrobatics.

The Take Part Weekend will run on 9th and 10th April. Suitable for most ages and abilities, if inspired by the performances at CircusFest, the Hula workshop, Aerial Skills workshop, and Acrobatic & Street Dance workshop will have groups trying something new.

If curiosity has captured your group there are also a range of circus-themed discussions, which look at topics such as whether the circus is too male dominated, and if the circus is still seen as a form of mass entertainment for specifically the working classes.
