The Norfolk Lights Express steams through a glowing Kelling Woods.

The popular Christmas service will commence on 14th November, running until 3rd January 2026 along the heritage line which runs along the Sheringham coastline and inland between Weybourne and Holt before returning to Sheringham.

This year’s theme is “A Golden Journey” and features new displays and soundtrack to celebrate 50 years since the heritage railway was reopened by volunteers in 1975.

The route

After boarding at Sheringham, passengers can relax in the restored steam-era carriages pulled by one of the line’s fleet of historic steam locomotives. Each carriage will be decorated with thousands of multicoloured lights, whilst ten illuminated installations alongside the trainline and in the woods will be brought to life by on-board narration and music.

The train will stop at Holt station, where passengers will have time to visit the on-board bar or disembark to stretch their legs and take photos of the train. The train will then return along the five-and-a-half mile journey, providing a second opportunity for passengers to enjoy the light installations.

Back at Sheringham, passengers can visit The Old Luggage Office buffet to purchase hot festive baps, hot drinks, alcoholic beverages, soft drinks, homemade cakes and savoury refreshments.
