Janet Dibley will star as the heroine Jackie

Plucky 70s and 80s girl magazine Jackie is going on a UK tour in the form of Jackie the Musical next year, and casting has been confirmed.

Janet Dibley (pictured) will play the main role of heroine Jackie. Dibley’s previous experience includes co-starring in ITV’s The Two of Us, playing Lorna Cartwright in EastEnders, and most recently as Chaz Moore in Broadchurch.

Nicholas Bailey, best known for his role as Anthony Trueman in EastEnders, will play the character Max.

Bailey has recently been seen on the theatrical stage in the production of The Invisible at the Bush Theatre in London. His other television work includes Siblings and Doctors, whilst past credits include Anubis House and Miranda.

Graham Bickley is another confirmed cast member; he’ll play the character John. Bickley became a household name playing Joey Boswell in the BBC TV series Bread, and since then has starred in a host of West End musicals, including Les Misérables, Miss Saigon, Sunset Boulevard and Ragtime.

Synopsis

Jackie was a magazine that accompanied thousands of girls though their teenage years, providing boy trouble solutions, hair styling tips and problem solving from residency agony aunts.

The musical tells the story of a fifty-something divorcée called Jackie who revisits her stash of well-thumbed Jackie magazines for the same reason she first read them nearly forty years ago: advice on how best to navigate the opposite sex.

Jackie the Musical has a sound track full of iconic hits from the 70s and 80s, including music by Donny Osmond, David Cassidy and Marc Bolan.
