About the show

Based on the Oscar-winning film by the same name, starring Judi Dench, Joseph Fiennes and Gwyneth Paltrow, the story was originally adapted for the West End by Lee Hall in 2014.

Following its triumphant run, the iconic show is about to embark on the new national tour, this time directed by Phillip Breen with music by Paddy Cunneen.

The fictitious story follows a young William Shakespeare as he sets out to beat his writer’s block and craft the greatest love story of all time, Romeo and Juliet.

With his deadline fast approaching, Shakespeare finds himself in desperate need of inspiration when he meets Viola de Lesseps. Viola is Shakespeare’s biggest fan and is willing to do anything to fulfil her dream of performing on the London stage, whilst also pursuing a passionate affair with the playwright himself.

The play is presented by Eleanor Lloyd Productions and Theatre Royal Bath Productions, by special arrangement with Disney Theatrical Group and Sonia Friedman Productions.
