Cornwall’s historical site, Bodmin Jail, has recently launched some guided tours of the attraction which delve in the history of the jail as well as its paranormal links.

Bodmin Jail

There are three new tours available: a Heritage Tour, a Bodmin Town Ghost Walk, and a Historical & Paranormal Tour.

About the new tours

The Heritage Tour takes visitors through the history of some of the most haunted locations in Cornwall, including the jail itself. Guests will then learn about the foundation and engineering behind the prison.

The tour gives you a deeper insight into what life was like behind bars in the 18th century and how the prison came to be. Along the way you’ll visit the infamous Execution Pit, restored to full working condition and said to be the only working execution pit in the UK.

The Bodmin Town Ghost Walk takes you on foot through Bodmin Town to view key points and buildings and hear all about its historical and paranormal links with the jail.

Upon returning to the jail you will be provided with refreshments, before heading down into the depths of the prison to enter into the world of the paranormal with an introductory glimpse into the hauntings and spirits that are said to reside within the walls.

The Historical & Paranormal Tour will guide you through the jail where you will be able to learn about the prisoners and the people who worked there. The it’s time to explore the paranormal, from ghostly sightings at the prison to haunting tales. With over two centuries of violent history behind it, Bodmin Jail is thought to be a hot spot of spooky activity.
