The stage adaptation of the award-winning film, Amélie, will premiere in the UK in April before embarking on a UK tour.

Amelie the Musical

The musical’s UK debut will take place at the Watermill Theatre in Newbury from the 11th April to 18th May. From the 20th May the musical will tour the UK, visiting venues in London, Oxford, Leicester, Birmingham, Glasgow and Edinburgh, among others.

Following the close of the UK tour in August 2019, the musical will tour internationally.

Michael Fentiman, director of Amélie The Musical, said: “As a theatre marker, staging Amélie as a musical is one of those exciting, terrifying challenges that you absolutely cannot turn down.

“It is a gentle, magical and uncynically joyous piece – that takes its audience on a surreal flight of fancy, in the mind of an extraordinary young woman, Amélie Poulain.”

Casting is yet to be revealed.

Amélie The Musical synopsis

Amélie is the story of a young woman who lives quietly in the world, but loudly in her mind. She secretly improvises small, but extraordinary acts of kindness that bring happiness to those around her.

But when a chance at love comes her way, Amélie realises that to find her own contentment she’ll have to risk everything and say what’s in her heart. Although times are hard for dreamers, Amélie is someone to believe in.

Music for the show is by Daniel Messe, with book by Craig Lucas, and lyrics by Nathan Tysen and Daniel Messe. The musical will be directed by Michael Fentiman.
