Gardener Matthew Oliver harvesting crops in the Global Growth Vegetable Garden

Located in rural Essex, the garden boasts a variety of traditional and modern styles. Highlights include the Dry Garden and its range of drought-resistant plants along with the Hilltop Garden’s roses and herbaceous borders.

There are 360 acres to explore across the garden including the innovative Global Vegetable Garden which displays fruit and vegetables from around the world.

Groups can add a private guided tour of the garden to their visit as well as a number of catering packages:

  • Garden cream tea: scone, cream and jam with a choice of tea. This is a self-service pre-paid voucher system which group visitors can take cream tea in the café or dine al fresco.
  • Picnic/takeaway lunch bag: sandwiches, crisps, bakery treats, fruit and soft drink.
  • Season hot lunch: seasonal menus are designed around the season’s best from the garden and include one course hot buffet (meat and vegetarian option) with sides, table water and tea/coffee.
  • Afternoon tea: selection of sandwiches and cakes and scones with clotted cream and jam and freshly brewed filter coffee and tea

Other benefits for groups include free coach parking and entry for the driver, free entry for the group travel organiser and a discount retail voucher for all group members (minimum spend applies).

With something to offer year-round, one of Hyde Hall’s crowning achievements is the Dry Garden. More than 400 species of plants live here, originating from areas of low summer rainfall including Australia and California.

The garden is also known for its flamboyant collection of roses which flourish in the heavy, clay soil and sunny, open aspect of the Hilltop Garden.

On the calendar of events for 2023 is the RHS Garden Hyde Hall Flower Show which takes place between 2nd and 6th August. Entry is included in the standard group ticket price. Visitors can expect more dazzling flower displays, plentiful gardening tips from expert exhibitors and an array of food.
