Tracey Harding, manager of tourist board Discover Newmarket, has explained to Group Leisure & Travel how important group organisers are for the area and what makes Newmarket unique.
How nice is it to be able to welcome back groups again after the last year and a half?
We have so missed our groups as they make up 45% of our tours business. That is why we have launched our new Welcome Back campaign whereby all tour operators receive two pounds of our famous Newmarket sausages to say thank you for visiting us.
What is it that makes Newmarket a unique destination to visit?
We are the home of horseracing and the international headquarters of British horseracing. Nowhere else in the world has our history and heritage and with such a strong USP comes a wealth of genuinely fascinating behind-the-scenes guided tours. Visitors are always amazed at what they can see and learn on our tours.
Groups can benefit from a range of perks when booking a day trip or itinerary through Discover Newmarket. You can email the team at email@example.com or call 01638 501122 for further guidance. More information is also available at discovernewmarket.co.uk/groups
Is there anything new for groups which you’re particularly excited about?
We’ve launched three new themed driving and walking tours this year which focus on some of Newmarket’s other points of interest, other than horses! We have a new Newmarket Royalty Tour, a literary tour around the Dick Francis novels and a new Food and Drink Taster Tour which is a must for all foodies.
If you had to choose, what’s your favourite tour?
With so many different types of tours to choose from, that is a difficult question. However, our most popular one for groups is our guided tour of The National Stud and National Horse Racing Museum packaged up to include morning and lunch time refreshments. As we offer a dedicated tours service, we can tailor-make your experience to meet your group’s requirements and budget. We even have our own tour buses and offer ample free coach parking facilities.
