Festival of Light

The annual Festival of Light at the Longleat Estate in Wiltshire will have the theme ‘A Fantastic Voyage’, with close to 650 illuminated lanterns taking over the grounds.

Due to run from 9th November through to the beginning of January, the Festival of Light is an annual event at Longleat that sees over 30 acres of the ‘Capability’ Brown landscaped grounds transformed after dark by giant lantern displays.

What to expect this year

The 2018 event invites guests to take ‘a thrilling expedition around the world’, visiting different themed areas, led by three new character creations, Harry and Bea, a plucky brother and sister, and their fearless terrier companion, Monty.

In each lantern scene the intrepid trio can be found exploring amazing locations, from the exotic to the glacial, filled with creatures, beautiful scenery, impressive structures and different modes of transportation.

Groups will get to see the trio ‘take flight’, suspended amongst the clouds in a hot air balloon, and observe them trek by camel to a Great Pyramid of Giza towering 20 metres into the night sky.

Further lantern scene highlights will include dinosaurs from prehistoric vegetation, and Medieval knights on horseback surround a castle’s battlements with bows and swords drawn. A 28 metre-long train called the Longleat Flyer will also appear to glide through the dark in a cloud of steam, and a rocket ship will ‘blast off’ into the solar system.

The Festival of Light will also boast a 50ft enchanted Christmas Tree Show, Longleat House dressed for a 1920s Christmas, and a Santa Train.
