Dressed for Drama: period costume exhibition to open at Worcester Cathedral

Worcester Cathedral will play host to a new period costume exhibition this August, titled Dressed for Drama.

Running from 1st to 29th August, the exhibition will feature a variety of costumes, including clothes worn by famous actors and actresses on the big screen.

What can you see?

The period costumes featuring in the Dressed for Drama collection are from British television and films. Keep an eye out for outfits that have appeared in Downton Abbey, Mr Selfridge, and Far from the Madding Crowd.

The displays will also include dresses worn by stars such as Cary Mulligan, who played Kitty Bennet in the 2005 film adaptation of Pride & Prejudice, and Natalie Dormer who is best known for her roles in The Tudors and Game of Thrones.

The costumes will be displayed in the early 12th century Chapter House at the cathedral which is thought to be the first round chapter house in the world.

A guided tour of Worcester Cathedral can be booked to complement a trip to the Dressed for Drama exhibition.

Groups taking a tour can observe the colourful stained glass throughout the religious building, see the Norman crypt, and hear about the cathedral’s royal connections.

There is also the option to extend a visit further by adding on afternoon tea in the Cloisters café. This can be pre-booked as a special group package, and there is a coach drop off point nearby.

Other tours and guided walks are available throughout the year, although groups are also welcome to turn up without booking for a self-led visit.
