A new outside adventure game concept is being launched this spring by The Escape Games Company in association with English Heritage.

Themed outdoor adventure game at Berkhamsted Castle

Initially the games will be suitable for family bubble groups but there are plans to take larger group bookings from 17th May.

The adventure games will be played in and around more than 30 historic sites across England and will see participants collaborate together in small groups to solve puzzles and crack clues inspired by their surroundings.

Actors in full costume will bring the games to life, engaging and interacting with players and further enhancing the experience.

All activities will take place outside and all clues and props will be cleaned and sanitised after every game to ensure they are Covid-safe. The sizes of groups and the number of households allowed to mix will also be adhered to depending on Covid restrictions.

The launch follows a pilot last summer at Berkhamsted Castle, an English Heritage site in Hertfordshire. All the new games will be inspired by the heritage of their locations and will be delivered under the company’s Adventure Out! Games brand, focusing on outdoor, escape style themed games in sites around England.

Locations include Houghton House in Bedfordshire, Hadleigh Castle in Essex and Baconsthorpe Castle in Norfolk.

Sites chosen range from castles and historical houses, to Roman ruins and abbeys in locations such as Bayham Abbey in Kent and Penrith Castle in Cumbria. Games are expected to appeal to families and friends of all ages, along with larger groups and those looking for corporate team building activities.

Owner and founder of The Escape Games Company, Ian Cox, said: “We are really excited to launch our games at these amazing heritage sites across England. Our objective is to help bring these magnificent locations to life with fun, energising games founded in fact and inspired by the past.”

He added: “After months of lockdown and inordinate amounts of time spent in front of screens, we wanted to provide activities that support people’s physical and mental health.

“Our problem-solving games will bring the feel-good factor and plenty of active fun and excitement.”

Adventure Out! Games are around one hour in duration and can be booked in advance at www.adventureoutgames.co.uk with selected games launching from 15th April and a money back guarantee should Covid restrictions change.

Family groups: family tickets are available for at least one adult and one child. Family bubbles can book from 15th April.
