A new production of Roald Dahl’s Charlie and the Chocolate Factory - The Musical is embarking on a UK and Ireland tour from February 2023 with a host of venues already confirmed.

The production tells the well-known story of young golden ticket winner Charlie Bucket and the mysterious confectionery wizard Willy Wonka.

Based on the famous novel by Roald Dahl and the Warner Bros. film, it features memorable songs from the iconic 1970s movie, as well as a host of new numbers. Music is by Marc Shaiman with lyrics by Mark Shaiman and Scott Wittman. It is directed by James Brining and designed by Simon Higlett.

When does it open and where is it touring?

The Charlie and the Chocolate Factory - The Musical 2023 tour opens at Milton Keynes Theatre in February, where it will run until 5th March ahead of playing His Majesty’s Theatre Aberdeen (15th - 26th March), Edinburgh Playhouse (29th March - 15th April), Norwich Theatre Royal (19th - 29th April), Wales Millennium Centre, Cardiff (3rd - 20th May) and Canterbury Marlowe Theatre (24th May - 3rd June).

The tour follows a Christmas season at Leeds Playhouse from 18th November 2022 to 28th January 2023. The Leeds Playhouse production is produced by Neal Street Productions & Playful Productions.

Remember the story?

For those of you not familiar with the story, it follows a young boy called Charlie who wins a golden ticket to the weird and wonderful Wonka Chocolate Factory, a chance of a lifetime to feast on the sweets he has always dreamed of. But beyond the gates astonishment awaits, as down the sugary corridors and amongst the incredible and edible delights, the five lucky winners discover not everything is as sweet as it seems.
