A new production of the iconic Chitty Chitty Bang Bang will take to the road in 2024, opening at the Mayflower Theatre in Southampton.

The show, which is produced by David Ian and Crossroads Live, will spend a month at Southampton’s Mayflower Theatre, running from 30th April 2024 until 12th May 2024, before travelling across the UK on an extensive tour.

Venues scheduled to host the tour include: Theatre Royale in Newcastle (3rd - 8th June 2024), Milton Keynes Theatre (2nd - 7th July 2024), New Theatre in Oxford (1st - 6th October 2024), Empire Theatre in Liverpool (8th - 20th October 2024) and Curve Theatre in Leicester (4th - 9th November 2024), before ending its run at Pavilion Theatre in Bournemouth on 1st December 2024. Based on Ian Fleming’s timeless story for children and later made into the famous 1968 film starring Dick Van Dyke, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang features unforgettable songs by the Sherman Brothers including Toot Sweets, , Truly Scrumptious and the Academy Award-nominated title song, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang.

Casting will be announced at a later date and will be directed by  (Titanic, Parade), with choreography by Karen Bruce (BBC’s Strictly Come Dancing, The Bodyguard).

The plot…

In case you’ve never seen Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, or need to refresh your memory, the story follows an absent-minded inventor Caractacus Potts who restores a broken-down old racing car with the help of his children Jemima and Jeremy.

Soon the family discover the car has magical powers, and along with the delectable Truly Scrumptious, the family end up on a fantastical adventure to far off lands.
