MSC Cruises makes further announcements about Cuba

MSC Cruises announced earlier this year that it would make Cuba a homeport for the MSC Opera starting this month; and now the cruise line has revealed that a second ship will be joining it.

In a move that will double the number of MSC Cruises’ Caribbean itineraries centred on Cuba, the MSC Armonia will join the MSC Opera in the Cuban capital Havana from November 2016 for the entire winter season.

MSC Armonia will offer guests the choice of two different seven-night itineraries, adding new American and Caribbean destinations to the MSC Cruises portfolio.

Beaches and coral reefs

Following two days and one night in the Cuban capital, the first itinerary will take guests from Havana to the white sand beaches and coral reefs of Isla de Roatán (Honduras), before heading for Belize City.

Groups on this cruise will also visit Costa Maya in Mexico and Cuba’s Isla de la Juventud, the second largest Cuban island, which is the setting of many pirate stories and the rumoured inspiration for Robert Louis Stevenson’s Treasure Island.

The second itinerary will start with two and a half days and two nights in Havana, then set sail for Montego Bay in Jamaica, Georgetown on the Cayman Islands, and Cozumel, on Mexico’s Yucatan Peninsula.

GTOs will also have the opportunity to combine both itineraries into a 14-night cruise.

With Havana’s cruise terminal situated at the foot of the UNESCO-listed Ciudad Vieja (Old Havana), groups have an ideal base from which to explore the historical sights of Cuba’s capital during their stay.

Don’t miss seeing Spanish colonial architecture from the 16th century including Castillo de la Real fort, now a maritime museum, and the pre-revolutionary Capitolio, which was originally the seat of government in Cuba 1959, and is now home to the Cuban Academy of Sciences.
