Groups Direct launches new Midsomer Murder tour

Date Posted: 30/03/2016

Groups Direct has unveiled a new group-friendly six-hour long Midsomer Murder tour, visiting a number of filming locations in Oxfordshire.

Groups going on one of the new tours will be led by an expert guide around a range of locations that feature in the popular Midsomer Murders ITV television series.

The guide will tell stories about the filming of the English murder mystery series, and take groups to filming locations including Beaconsfield and Watlington.

Midsomer Murders has been on television since 1997, and to date there have been 105 episodes and 222 deaths, with audiences of over seven million UK viewers.

Where will you go?

Depending on the route taken, and length of tour, the villages and towns visited will include Littlewick Green, which has appeared in Midsomer Murders in several episodes, most notably as the scene of the murder at the cricket match in the Dead Man’s Eleven episode.

The tour will also pass through Henley-on-Thames, which is the current location for the main town of Causton. Visitors will be able to see Causton town hall, the court, and the auction house.

Groups also have the option of seeing Wallingford (home to Causton Theatre where actors have been known to die on stage), The Lee (where Joyce Barnaby does her painting), and Dorchester-on-Thames (home to the Midsomer Folk Festival).

Long Crendon and Thame – the most used locations for the entire series – and Bledlow, which was used in the scene where the local vicar jumps off the church tower, also feature on the tour.

More about the tour

The tour is a circular one, and can be taken up from a pick up point close to any of the locations visited on the way.

GTOs can arrange for the experience to be as long as they want, although it normally lasts around six hours including breaks for morning coffee and lunch.

The Midsomer Murder tour is suitable for groups of 30 or more people, and GTOs can add an afternoon tea stop to the itinerary if desired.
