Shakespeare’s tale of power and freedom, directed by and starring Tim Crouch, is performing in the candlelit theatre until April.

The Tempest

Opening on 17th January and running until 12th April 2026, The Tempest will be performed in the playhouse which is modelled on the theatres of Shakespeare’s London.

The Tempest is directed by Tim Crouch (I, Malvolio, An Oak Tree). Tim will also play Prospero, with the rest of the cast including Faizal Abdullah as Caliban, Sophie Steer as Miranda, and Naomi Wirthner as Ariel.

Director Tim Crouch said: “This project is the stuff that dreams are made of. I’m working with a company I’ve dreamed of working with; directing a play I’ve dreamed of directing; performing in a dream space that feels like it was tailor-made for me. I can’t wait to share this story with an audience.”

The play tells the story of Prospero, Miranda, Caliban and Ariel. Four lost souls stranded on this island with no hope of escape.

As the years pass, they tell themselves a story. A story that is told over and over. A story of past wrongs. A story of desire and revenge. A story of a storm that will rescue and redeem them. A story that conjures other characters out of air, out of thin air. An imagined enchantment. But will salvation ever really come?

Group visits to Shakespeare’s Globe

The team at Shakespeare’s Globe welcomes groups of up to 45 people for guided tours of the iconic theatre at discounted rates, with guides bringing the story of the theatre to life, including how the original survived the plague, fire and political oppression and rose again in the 1990s.

Guided tours can be combined with a matinee or evening performance in either the Globe Theatre or the Sam Wanamaker Playhouse. Groups should enquire with the box office about booking tickets to the production.
