The project will take place over the next five years with the aim of creating a more modern, seamless, efficient and sustainable experience for millions of travellers who pass through.

The transformation is being described as a “significant moment for LeShuttle”.

Work has begun to improve the terminals at Folkestone and Calais, beginning with the construction of a reimagined check-in area and canopy at the UK terminal which is expected to be completed before the end of 2026.

Over the next five years, both passenger terminal buildings will be fully refurbished, ticketing will be transformed and new features introduced, including a redesigned food hall and outdoor pet area.

Deborah Merrens, chief commercial officer at LeShuttle said: “This is a significant moment for LeShuttle. We are setting ourselves up for the next 30 years by completely rethinking the arrival experience, focusing on ease, enjoyment and a greener future.

“The terminal is the first thing customers see, and we want to switch them into holiday mode from the very first step.”

LeShuttle will remain fully operational during the process, with temporary structures and weather protection in place to maintain comfort and flow inside the terminal.

A new welcome and ticketing desk will be built to help streamline the customer experience.

Planned changes

Plans include smarter layouts and improved amenities which are designed to enhance customer flow and provide spaces for passengers to spend time whilst waiting.

Key features include a new landscaped outdoor pet area, a redesigned food hall with expanded, contemporary dining options, spaces with improved daylight, seating, and acoustics, seamless check-in process with better weather protection and upgraded booths and redesigned ticketing.

Sustainability is an important part of the project and solar panels will be installed across the roof of the arrival canopy and passenger terminal buildings. The project will preserve and reuse existing structures wherever possible.
