The Swiss Garden

The Swiss Garden at Shuttleworth in Bedfordshire will keep its 2017 group rates the same for the year ahead.

Discounted entry for groups of ten or more people is available when booked in advance to visit the Swiss Garden as well as the Shuttleworth Collection, both on the Shuttleworth estate. The same discount is offered on days involving events taking place, although this should be checked in advance.

Group tours are available when pre-booked, as are special meal packages. GTOs are able to book a Swiss Garden guide for an accompanied tour of the garden that brings to life the history of Lord Ongley and the garden’s creation, its evolution under the Shuttleworth family, and what’s happening within it today. A slideshow can be added to combined or garden-only entries, too.

Tours can also be combined with a cream tea, tours of the Collection’s vintage aircraft and vehicles, or an afternoon tea in the Shuttleworth House.

More about the garden

The Swiss Garden is an example of the Regency fashion for creating landscapes in a picturesque alpine style. Within the garden are 13 listed structures, an adjacent woodland sculpture trail and three resident peacocks.

Restoration work in 2014 has ensured it has accessibility for all visitors, plus there are three resident peacocks that roam the gardens freely. Events such as outdoor theatre and music take place every year and can be booked online.

Visiting soon?

Groups planning a spring visit to the Swiss Garden can expect to see daffodils on the Swiss Cottage lawn and on Daffodil Island; alpine bulbs in the Rock Garden; ornamental cherry blossom; white sprays of Spirea in the restored beds, and banks of rhododendrons.
